My 9-5 and 6-10 Jobs

You’re probably asking yourself what are my 9-5 and 6-10 jobs?  This is another important factor in becoming financially free.  The concept is to use the degree I have earned through college to get a solid job in a growing company, working “9am-5pm”.    This ideally will be your main source of income.  The “6-10” job is ALL ON YOU.  This is where you can and WILL separate yourself from the pack.

9-5 Job

Whether its an engineering job or a financial job, it doesn’t matter.  What matters is you find a company that fuels your passion and enhances your skillset.  The company makes you better and you make the company better.  This will generate most of your income right out of college.  Simple idea and it’s all one we have been told by our parents, grandparents, and other relatives… “Get a job after college”; “Get a job and work hard”.

6-10 Job

My 6pm-10pm job is where I spend time furthering my financial education about stock, real estate, or profiting side hustles.  Updating my personal stock portfolio, learning more about real estate, managing a property, or managing a business. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a “Job” at first.  But in these hours you need to further yourself mentally.  Reading books/articles and keeping up with the news.  The plan is to create some kind of passive income with this available time.  In hopes that this passive income will allow you to move away from your 9-5 job.  Making your 6-10 job your main source of income!

You should also use this time to manage your finances!! Create personal balance statements and income sheets.  Become an accountant.  By following previous tips from past posts you can save a couple hundred bucks a month by lowering expenses and create a passive income by investing in dividend-paying stocks.

Example

Wannabe Chopperman

Above you can see a simple income statement.  Chopperman and Wannabe Chopperman have the same exact job paying $1540 every week.  Yet Chopperman has figured out how to lower his expense and increase his passive income to pocket $1,090 every week compared to Wannabe Chopperman who only pockets $290 every week.

If you’re interested in learning how to lower your expenses, check out the “How to Start Saving” section of this website.  I recommend starting with the post “Saving 101” followed by “Saving 101.1”.

Inspiration

Elon Musk is known for working 80-hour work works.  His philosophy is if a normal workweek is 40 hours and you do 80 hours then you should be able to complete twice as much.  Hence you could do two years’ worth of work in someone else’s one year of work.  It sounds like 6-8 years of working 80 hour work weeks will put me several years ahead of everyone else.

Another possible plus is the chance of building your side business into a full-time operation which could result in enormous amounts of money.  A majority of the current one percent made their fortune from personal businesses.

Wrap Up

This is a simple idea that very few people can wrap their heads around.  Most people fear their income sheet.  They don’t want to understand the flow of money and end up living paycheck to paycheck.  About 50% of Americans cannot pay a surprise $1000 bill.  Don’t be that guy.   Save your money and make your money work for you.
